About Moving to Mexico Guide
Moving to Mexico Guide is an independent resource for people planning a move to Mexico. Our goal is simple: give you accurate, current, practical information — and tools that answer your specific questions — so you can make the move with confidence.
Who's behind the guide
Jacob Paul runs Moving to Mexico Guide. He moved from the United States to Mexico in 2022, relocating for his job with a multinational company. He has lived in Guadalajara ever since with his wife and two children, and still works for a multinational there.
The move started as a career decision, but Mexico quickly became home. Jacob fell in love with Mexican food — the street-side tacos, the slow-cooked family recipes, the markets piled high with fresh produce, and the way a shared meal turns strangers into friends. Just as much, he was won over by the warmth of the people: neighbors who greet you by name, colleagues who make a newcomer feel included, and a culture that puts family and time together first.
And then there's the country itself. From colonial plazas and colorful streets to mountains, lakes and coastline, Jacob still finds Mexico's beauty surprising. Those are the experiences he hopes this guide helps other families discover — with the practical steps sorted out first.
The guide draws on his own move and on official sources. He isn't a lawyer or a licensed immigration professional: guidance on visas, taxes and healthcare is based on the government sources linked on each page.
How we make our guides
Our guides are researched and drafted with the help of AI tools, then checked against the official sources linked at the end of each page — Mexican laws, consulate requirement sheets, and INM, SAT, IMSS and SENASICA publications. Jacob reviews and approves every guide before it's published, and adds his own experience where he has it. Where a source is a news outlet or law firm rather than an official body, we say so on the page.
Editorial policy
- Primary sources first. Immigration, tax and healthcare rules are checked against official sources (INM, SRE, SAT, IMSS, INEGI) and linked on every guide.
- Dated and reviewed. Every page shows when it was last updated. The whole site was last reviewed on October 5, 2026.
- Numbers you can verify. Residency thresholds are calculated from the published UMA value using the official multipliers, so you can check our math.
- Cost figures are editorial estimates. City budgets and rents are judgment-based ranges, not survey data or quotes. How we estimate costs.
- Corrections. If you spot an error or a rule change, email corrections@movingtomexicoguide.com and we'll update the page and its date.
